Generative AI vs Predictive AI

Generative and Predictive AI are two strong domains of the technology of artificial intelligence that serve different purposes. Generative AI is actually a class of AI that deals with creating new content from already existing material. It learns patterns from input and generates novel outputs, including text, images, or music. For example, AI systems like OpenAI's GPT can write human-like text, whereas tools such as DALL·E create images from textual prompts. This type of AI finds its utilization in content creation, entertainment, and design.

Predictive AI makes use of historical data to predict the future. It discovers trends and patterns that allow the prediction of what is likely to happen next. Predictive AI has therefore been of immense value in sectors like finance, healthcare, and retail. Examples are that AI models predict loan defaults, medical conditions, and consumer behavior. While generative AI is about innovation and creation, predictive AI is about data-driven foresight that helps businesses and individuals make informed decisions. Both AI types are revolutionizing industries, but they serve different needs (creativity versus prediction).
